FREE INSTRUCTION - Instruction is also available by attending the Metchosin Rug Hooking group, the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, September to May. This is an informal setting and instruction is provided in weekly segments. Kits must be purchased from the instructor prior to beginning the group.
BEGINNER LESSON AND DROP-IN HOOKING -
ONE SATURDAY PER MONTH - BEGINNING OCTOBER 20 and November 24, 2018
Location: In Studio. Class limited to 5 students
Beginner class: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
Drop-in hooking: 1:00-3:00 (for those who have completed a beginner class)
will receive a 5" x 5" design for a mug rug but that can also be developed into a small rug. Designs vary with each class. The cost is $125.00 plus tax and includes a kit with yarn and wool strips, rug hook and frame. Students will need to bring large and
small scissors, ruler, and lunch. PLEASE CALL THE STUDIO TO REGISTER. A deposit of $50.00 is required to hold your spot.
Students will learn:
- how to cut fabric into strips without a fabric cutter,
- basic techniques of rug hooking (hooking a straight line, angles, curves, circles),
- hooking with fabric strips, yarn, or t-shirts,
- basic elements of color theory that will make your rug "pop",
- how to choose good fabric for recycling into rugs,
- finishing techniques.

Learn to rug hook in your choice of a pictorial design.
Students will learn to hook a small design in fabric or yarn suitable for making into a small mat, pillow, or wall-hanging. Students may design their own rug (must be on suitable backing) or purchase a beginner design from several available. For suitable designs, go to beginner designs. The class is 2 days and will follow the same format as above.
Supplies required: Large and small scissors, ruler, 1/4 yd of black or other suitable color for outlining (available from instructor), an assortment of various colors of fabric or yarn (available from instructor); a large hoop or frame (may be found in a thrift shop or available from instructor), and a rug hook (available from instructor).
Workshop fee for two days is $90.00 plus the cost of your design and fabric to complete the design. Please call the studio to register.
